4M Celebrates Nelson Mandela Day is a commemorative poster created to honour the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela in a way that felt visually bold, reflective, and culturally grounded. The goal was to create more than an informational post — it needed to feel like a tribute, a visual moment of remembrance, and a reminder of the values Mandela continues to represent.
The creative direction uses bold typography, layered imagery, and an editorial-inspired collage approach to communicate presence, impact, and historical weight. I wanted the composition to feel strong without becoming visually heavy, balancing contrast, scale, and image treatment to make the message clear and emotionally resonant.
The poster was designed for a younger audience within the 4M Conference YPD context, so the visual language needed to feel current while still respecting the seriousness of the subject. The layering helped create depth, while the typography gave the piece structure, confidence, and a stronger sense of voice.
At its core, this project was about using design to hold memory and meaning. Rather than simply acknowledging a date on the calendar, the final piece reflects on leadership, legacy, service, and the kind of greatness younger generations are still being called into.
