Eskom is a neon-inspired motion artwork about electricity instability, load shedding, and the uneasy relationship people have with a service provider that should feel reliable but often feels fragile.
The piece uses Eskom’s blue brand colour, but instead of placing it on a clean white background, the animation is nested inside a dark visual field. This makes the blue feel less corporate and more electrical — like a signal, spark, or warning light.
The artwork was drawn and animated in Procreate. The linework is intentionally delicate, uneven, and minimal because it reflects how unstable the system feels. The visual language is not polished into perfection; it leans into fragility, flicker, and interruption.
At its core, the project uses motion to speak about load shedding without needing to show a literal blackout. The flicker becomes the message. The line appearing, fading, and resisting stability turns electricity into something emotional, unreliable, and tense.
